Windows are manufactured in many shapes and sizes, as well as in various materials - steel, wood, concrete and aluminium. Nearly all the natural light in a house comes through the windows. In general, the amount of window area should be around 15% of the size of the room (floor area). To allow for good ventilation, the total opening area should be at least 5% of the size of the room. As a rule, the thicker the window glass, the better it will be at insulating from heat, cold and noise.
