REPAIRED KOEBERG UNIT TO REDUCE RISK OF LOAD SHEDDING
From Eyewitness News - May 31, 2015
Eskom says one of the units at its Koeberg Power Station is expected to come back online this weekend, and will likely reduce the risk of load shedding.
The country has experienced blackouts almost daily as the power utility battles to keep up with electricity demand while it carries out maintenance on its aging infrastructure.
Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe says about 900 megawatts will be added to the grid sometime this weekend, which should stabilise the system.
“Unit One of the Koeberg Power Station is coming online, so they will continue to do the synchronisation which generally takes a few days. They started during the course of this week.”
At the same time, Unit Six at the Medupi Power Station has begun producing about 800 megawatts of power, which means June will be a much more stable month in terms of electricity supply, according to the utility.
